LAHORE: The Punjab government has approved a new tourism initiative, the glass train service, which will connect Rawalpindi and Murree, here on Sunday.

As per the details, this decision was taken in a five-hour meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and Muslim League (N) President Nawaz Sharif. Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb gave a detailed review of Murree’s development plan.

The meeting concluded with several important resolutions. The government will engage an international consultant to guide the development of the Rawalpindi Murree Shisha train.

Additionally, a policy was adopted to restore the historical names of cities, regions and landmarks, including Murree.

Urban planning and aesthetics were also discussed in the meeting. It was decided that high-rise hotels obstructing the scenic view along Mall Road would be relocated. The iconic hotel at GPO Chowk will be shifted to a new location, and a standard facade and color scheme for heritage buildings will be introduced.

Additionally, the provincial government will now oversee the approval process for any amendments to building regulations in Murree, ensuring a coordinated approach to the development and conservation of the town.
