LAHORE: The second phase of an innovative healthcare program, “Clinic on Wheels,” was inaugurated by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz today during a formal ceremony in Lahore.
According to a channel report, the program aims to bring quality medical services directly to the doorsteps of millions of citizens across the province, especially residents of backward areas.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Maryam Nawaz asserted that her government is taking all possible steps for the betterment of the people of Punjab.
She added that the aim is to ensure free healthcare to the common man without any discrimination on the basis of background or location.
Maryam added that the ‘Clinics on Wheels’ vehicles are now equipped with modern facilities, including mobile operation theatres and air conditioning.
It was announced that a total of 911 vehicles operating these mobile clinics will start operating across Punjab from today.
About 250 vehicles have been deployed in the initial phase.
With the addition of more units, the program now aims to reach 4 million people across all districts of Punjab.
Serving both urban and rural areas, these mobile units will offer delivery services, essential medical care, and diagnostic services.
Patients in remote areas who received up to two months of medicines were also brought to the public’s attention.
Within a few months of the initiative’s launch, more than 10 million patients have been treated.
Paying tribute to the services of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz said that significant progress was made in the health sector during their tenure, adding that her government is taking effective steps to lay the foundation for a comprehensive health system and make health facilities accessible across Punjab.
In addition to mobile clinics, the Chief Minister also shared his plans to set up modern cardiology centers in eight cities of Punjab, including Mianwali, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Jhelum, Sahiwal, Murree and Layyah.
