LAHORE: Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) President Nawaz Sharif have officially launched the ‘Apni Chhat Apna Ghar‘ housing scheme, which aims to provide affordable housing to people across province.

As per the details, the inauguration took place at the Expo Center in Lahore, where loan checks were distributed to eligible applicants.

A large number of government officials, beneficiaries and citizens participated in the ceremony. Both Maryam Nawaz and Nawaz Sharif personally distributed checks to men and women availing loans through the scheme.

During her speech, Maryam Nawaz revealed that the housing project was initially proposed by Nawaz Sharif, who was actively involved in its development. “This initiative reflects his vision, and he has kept a close eye on its progress,” she said. The budget of this project is 700 billion rupees, which aims to provide loans for the construction of houses, which will enable thousands of families to build their own houses.

“We have received more than 500,000 applications, and we plan to provide loans to 500,000 people in the next five years, which will result in the construction of 500,000 houses,” CM Punjab explained.

Maryam Nawaz asserted that getting these loans has been made easy, requiring only a National Identity Card and proof of land ownership. “We have ensured that disbursement of loans is on merit. This year alone, we will provide loans for 100,000 houses, all interest-free, to be repaid in nine years,” Maryam said.

Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) played an important role in making the application process smooth and transparent. She further assured that the loan installments will not exceed Rs 15,000 per month to ensure minimum financial burden on the recipients.

Additionally, she explained that the loan would be repaid in two installments instead of four, with no repayments required for the first three months. People can apply online or visit local government offices for more information.

On the political front, Maryam Nawaz confidently said that Pakistan is now on the path of development. Criticizing the opposition’s tactics of protest and unrest, she said, “Politics of chaos and division is dying.” Soon, these forces will be a thing of the past.”

In her concluding remarks, he reiterated the government’s commitment to public welfare, particularly health, education and employment generation. She extended her support to the people of all provinces including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to access these services.
