KHUZDAR: Four people were killed and at least five others injured in a powerful blast in Khuzdar district of Balochistan on Wednesday, police officials said. The blast took place in the Nal Bazaar where the explosives were planted in a motorcycle. The blast set nearby vehicles on fire, spreading panic among the locals.

Law enforcement agencies and rescue teams reached the spot, cordoned off the area and started rescue operations. The injured were shifted to teaching hospitals in Nal and Khuzdar for medical treatment.

The incident comes just two days after another attack, in which a female suicide bomber targeted a paramilitary convoy in Kalat, killing a security force soldier and injuring four others.

According to data released by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), terrorist attacks in Pakistan increased by 42 percent in January 2025 compared to the previous month. The report documented 74 militant attacks across the country, killing 91 people, including 35 security personnel, 20 civilians and 36 militants. Another 117 people were injured, including 53 security forces personnel, 54 civilians and 10 militants.

Balochistan was among the worst-hit provinces, with 24 attacks in January resulting in 26 deaths, including 11 security personnel, six civilians and nine militants. Security experts have expressed concern over the increasing militant activity, stressing the need for tough measures against terrorism.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the Khuzdar blast as security forces are on high alert to prevent further attacks in the region.
