DGIP announces solution to passport delay issues with new update

ISLAMABAD: Director General (DG) Passports Mustafa Jamal Qazi has said that the department is now printing 40,000 passports per day against the earlier capacity of 20,000 passports.

Mustafa Jamal Qazi highlighted that the installation of modern passport printers in the Passport Department has been successfully completed, which has increased the printing capacity of the Department. Productivity has doubled with the introduction of 10 new printers.

Not working 24 hours a day

Apart from this, the Directorate General of Immigration and Passport (DGIP) spokesperson has issued an important announcement regarding the working hours of passport offices.

The spokesperson clarified that the news about passport offices working round the clock in Islamabad is not true, no decision has been taken to extend the office hours to 24 hours.

Additionally, the spokesperson said various proposals are being reviewed to possibly keep the offices running continuously, including plans to expand services in the future with improved printing capabilities.

The spokesperson said that the services will be expanded in all major cities including Islamabad.

The secure document increases travel ease and benefits overseas Pakistanis, strengthening Pakistan’s global travel standing.

Pakistani passports are issued by the government of Pakistan to its citizens for international travel. The Passport Act of 1974 governs the issuance of passports, ensuring strict regulations. Pakistan offers diplomatic, official and ordinary passports. Ordinary passports are for ordinary citizens and can be obtained by the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports (DGIP) by meeting certain criteria and submitting the required documents. Recent developments include the introduction of e-passports with enhanced security features.
