LAHORE: A significant increase in the registration of e-bikes has been recorded under the CM Punjab Green Credit Program.

According to Punjab Environment Agency Spokesperson Sajid Bashir, the number of e-bikes has reached 1248 in the last eight months, with 755 new e-bikes registered in August 2025 alone.

The spokesperson said that the use of e-bikes is significantly reducing noise, smoke, and traffic pressure.

Under the scheme, citizens are provided with the facility of 5 green credits, under which Rs 50,000 is given on purchasing an e-bike and registering it with the program.

This amount is transferred directly to the citizen’s bank account or mobile wallet.

It was further said that for the release of the second installment of Rs 50,000, it is mandatory to drive 6,000 kilometers in 6 months, the record of which must be uploaded on the Green Credit app. Thus, a total of Rs 100,000 will be provided.

According to Sajid Bashir, e-bikes are the future of eco-friendly and low-emission transport, while the program is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by thousands of tons annually.

The Punjab government aims to shift 30 percent of the province’s transport to electric by 2030.

Earlier, Senior provincial minister Marriyum Aurangzeb announced a cash reward of Rs100,000 for motorcyclists and bikers who convert their petrol bikes into electric vehicles (EVs).

Addressing a function in Lahore, Marriyum Aurangzeb said that the Punjab government has launched a forestry initiative under which citizens and industries have been allowed to adopt parks and forests to offset their carbon footprint.

She added that the environment department has also introduced a green credit program, under which citizens can get financial incentives in the form of green credit by planting trees.
