ISLAMABAD: Electricity prices have increased by Rs 1.19 per unit across the country, including Karachi.

According to media reports, electricity prices have been increased as part of the April 2026 fuel adjustment, a notification of which has also been issued.

According to the notification issued by NEPRA, the monthly adjustment will also be applied to K-Electric consumers.

The increase in electricity prices will be applied to the bills for the current month of June. CPPPA had demanded an increase of Rs 1.73 per unit in the adjustment of Paril.

Yesterday, Federal Minister for Energy Owais Leghari admitted that fixed charges in electricity bills have doubled.

The Federal Minister for Energy had said that the fixed cost of our bill is the same throughout the year. In the months when we use more units, the fixed cost is less. We used to take 3 to 4 percent of the bill fixed cost earlier; at present, there is 10 percent fixed cost on the bill.

He claimed that electricity rates for domestic consumers have decreased, and that if subsidies continue to be provided, electricity will continue to be cheaper by Rs. 5 to 6 per unit.
