ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) released its lunar calendar for 2026, which includes expected moon-sighting dates for all Islamic months, along with moon birth timings, sunset times, and expected visibility.
According to PMD, the crescent of Shaban would be on January 21, and the Ramadan moon is likely to be sighted on February 18, 2026. The Shawwal moon will fall on March 19, and Dhul Qadah will be on April 18, 2026.
According to the department’s prediction, the Dhul Hijjah moon is expected to be visible on May 17, 2026, which means that Eid al-Adha would likely fall on May 27. The Muharram moon could appear on June 15, heralding the advent of the new Islamic year. The Safar moon is expected on July 15, and Rabi ul Awwal may be sighted on August 13, 2026.
Similarly, the Rabi us Sani crescent would be on September 12, Jumada ul Awwal on October 12, Jumada us Sani on November 10, and the Rajab moon on December 10, 2026.
PMD said the calendar has been prepared by its Climate Data Processing Center, which routinely prepares a lunar forecast to assist in official moon sighting and other religious events throughout the country.
