ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly on Wednesday approved the much-awaited 27th Constitutional Amendment bill during the session presided over by Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, two days after the bill was sailed through the Senate.
On the other hand, the opposition protested against the 27th Amendment and boycotted the session today, rejecting the amendment outright.
Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, while once again inviting the opposition to talks, said that as Speaker National Assembly, I am ready to facilitate talks between the opposition and the government.
If the government and the opposition sit down together, then ways will be found.
According to sources, there was a technical error in the 27th Constitutional Amendment in the Senate.
After approval from the National Assembly, the 27th Constitutional Amendment is likely to go back to the Senate.
Sources say that the 27th Constitutional Amendment will be re-approved by the Senate tomorrow.
Yesterday, Federal Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar presented the 27th Constitutional Amendment in the National Assembly, which was also discussed by the government and opposition members.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that while addressing the National Assembly session in Islamabad, the 26th Amendment was passed a year ago.
At that time, we tried to make the constitutional Amendment with the joint efforts and consultation of everyone. Whether it was the 1973 Constitution or the 18th Amendment, we passed it with consultation.
We also made the 26th Amendment with consultation, under which constitutional benches were formed. There was full political consultation for this.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that we consulted Maulana Fazlur Rehman, who also engaged PTI. When the 26th Amendment was passed, not only did Maulana Fazlur Rehman support it, but PTI also supported it without voting.
The 26th Amendment was passed with the permission of PTI.
He said that now the 27th Amendment has been passed, in which we are going to complete the incomplete agenda of the Charter of Democracy.
A constitutional bench is going to be formed, Article 243 is also being changed, after which the Prime Minister said that we are making the Army Chief a Field Marshal, and we are giving constitutional protection to this position.
In recent days, incidents of terrorism have occurred in different parts of the country, including Islamabad, which he strongly condemns on behalf of the Pakistan Peoples Party and the entire nation.
He said that political differences are part of the democratic process; however, when it comes to national security and eliminating terrorism, all political forces should come on one page.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that the challenges facing the country can only be faced with unity and consensus. The entire country will have to stand united and fight terrorists and beasts.
He said that once again, terrorists are raising their heads, but Pakistan has defeated terrorists before and will defeat them again.
