RAWALPINDI: A 16-year-old girl was reportedly shot dead by her father in Rawat, Rawalpindi, for not deleting her TikTok account, a local private TV channel reported on Wednesday.
The family initially said that the girl had taken her own life. But in the course of the investigation, the police found evidence contradicting the report of suicide and establishing that the girl had been murdered.
Rawat Police reported that the initial investigation indicated the father had insisted on his daughter removing her TikTok app from her smartphone.
When she did not agree, he is said to have opened fire on her, which resulted in her death, and he escaped. The police filed a case and obtained forensic evidence from the crime scene. A search operation has been initiated to bring the accused into custody, who is on the run.
The episode outraged users on social media as they demanded justice while questioning the increasing instances of domestic violence and honor killings in Pakistan.
