In a statement on X, the Federal Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has rejected a notification circulating on social media that declares September 6 as a public holiday in connection with Pakistan’s Defense Day.
ISLAMABAD: Speculation is ongoing on social media regarding whether September 6 will be observed as a public holiday in Pakistan. September 6, which will fall on Friday this year is celebrated as Defence Day.
According to the federal cabinet division’s notification regarding the annual holidays in the country, September 6 is not designated as a public holiday for the year 2024.

The last time the public holiday was observed on Defence Day at the federal level was in 1997. However, the federal government discontinued this holiday for the national day in 1998.
The notification went viral on social media claiming to have a public holiday on September 6, however, the government has cleared the air on the matter.
