ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Wednesday officially announced the public holidays on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr 2025.

According to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division, the Eidul Fitr holidays will be observed from March 31 (Monday) to April 2 (Wednesday).

Eidul Fitr is expected to be observed across Pakistan on Monday, March 31, 2025, following the completion of 29 days of Ramadan.

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, along with zonal committees are set to convene on Sunday evening, March 30, 2025 (corresponding to Ramazan 29, 1446 AH), to sight the Shawwal moon.

Religious scholars, meteorologists, and officials will meet at the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony in Islamabad to review moon sighting reports from all of Pakistan.

The sighting of the new moon defines the lunar months of the Islamic calendar, including Ramadan, Eid, and Muharram.

The Pakistan Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) uses scientific methods, astronomical calculations, and advanced technology to forecast the appearance of the Ramadan and Shawwal crescents.

Astronomically, the Shawwal moon is likely to be visible on March 30, suggesting that Eid ul Fitr will most certainly fall on March 31, 2025.
