Federal govt finalises subsidy, installment details for electric bike scheme 2025

ISLAMABAD: To promote electric vehicles and bikes, the federal government has decided to provide 116,000 electric bikes in installments of 2 years across the country under the e-bike scheme 2025.

As per details, a subsidy of Rs 50,000 will be given per electric bike and rickshaw, making them more accessible to the general public. The age limit for eligibility under the scheme will be from 18 to 65 years.

According to sources, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) is close to finalising the preparation of the installment and subsidy scheme for electric bikes, as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will announce the e-bike policy scheme on August 14, Independence Day.

Under the scheme, the government has allocated Rs9 billion in the current budget to support the rollout of electric bikes.

The price of each electric bike is estimated to be fixed at Rs 250,000, while a subsidy of Rs 50,000 and the remaining amount of more than Rs 200,000 will have to be paid in installments.

According to the details, 17 companies have been successful in obtaining licenses to manufacture electric bikes, and the government has set the target of 30 percent electric vehicles by 2030 under the policy.

Registration process of e-bike scheme 

To promote accessibility and transparency, registration for the electric bike scheme will be done online. If the number of applicants is more than the available number, a balloting scheme shall be adopted to identify the beneficiaries.

The government wants at least 2 million electric bikes on the roads by 2030. And the overall vision is to deploy 53,950 electric rickshaws, 99,155 electric cars, 2,238 electric buses, and 2,996 electric trucks.

A subsidy of Rs 100 billion will be provided in 5 years for the success of the EV policy, including Rs 9 billion this year. It includes a subsidy of Rs 19 billion for 2027, more than Rs 24 billion in 2028, and more than Rs 26 billion in 2029. About Rs 23 billion will be allocated in terms of subsidy in 2030.
