ISLAMABAD: The federal government has announced the policy revision regarding the compensation structure for families of government employees who pass away during service.

As per the details, the government has withdrawn the government job quota scheme for a family member of low-grade government employees.

The Establishment Division has issued a notification in this regard, directing all ministries and divisions to implement this new decision.

The notification stated that the change was made in light of the Supreme Court’s ruling dated October 18, 2024, and the new policy will be effective from the date of the court’s verdict.

Despite this revision, the civil servant’s family will continue to receive other benefits and allowances provided under the Prime Minister Assistance Package in case of death during service.

The Establishment Division clarified that this decision does not apply to families of law enforcement personnel who are martyred in terrorism-related incidents.

Additionally, appointments made before the Supreme Court’s decision will remain unaffected.

Under the previous quota scheme, a widow/widower, wife/husband, or child of a civil servant in different grades was offered a government job on a contract or regular basis without competition and merit.
