KARACHI: A female constable in Karachi has been suspended for making a TikTok video while in uniform, the video featuring Constable Maria Gill, went viral on social media, prompting DIG South Syed Asad Raza to take action and order her suspension.

Constable Maria Gill, who is stationed at the Gizri police station, is facing criticism for this “irresponsible” behavior. DIG South emphasized that the police force must maintain professionalism and that such conduct is unacceptable.

Maria Gill has appealed to the authorities to reconsider the decision and ensure she receives a fair evaluation.

Today on September 3, the government of Pakistan has issued a memorandum stating that no civil servant is allowed to use social media to share any information without consent from the authorities.

Government agencies are responsible for monitoring their social media platforms to remove any inappropriate content.

The memorandum emphasizes that the objective of this policy is not to restrict the constructive use of social media but to ensure that government employees use these platforms responsibly and in a manner that aligns with their official duties.

Key officials, including federal secretaries, additional secretaries, department heads, and chief secretaries, are accountable for ensuring adherence to these guidelines.

Earlier this year, the former AIG Karachi addressed the growing trend of police officials, including female constables, making TikTok videos.

The ex-police chief, Imran Yaqoob Minhas, stated that police uniforms are meant for official duties and not for personal promotion. He criticized the practice of making TikTok videos in uniform during work hours as inappropriate.
