ISLAMABAD: Senior Awami National Party (ANP) leader and former Senator Ilyas Ahmed Bilour passed away on Saturday morning at a private hospital in Peshawar, his party confirmed.
ANP leader Samar Haroon Bilour, in a post on social media site X, confirmed the demise of Ilyas Bilour.
“Brother of Haji Ghulam Ahmed Bilour, Shaheed Bashir Ahmed Bilour, Aziz Ahmed Bilour, and father of Ghazanfar Bilour [former] senator Ilyas Ahmed Bilour has passed away,” she wrote.
Bilour, 84, died due to Kidney failure and was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Peshawar for several months, the deceased’s family confirmed, adding that he passed away at 4 am today.
Ilyas Bilour’s funeral prayer will be held tomorrow (Sunday) at 2 pm at Wazir Bagh in Peshawar and will be laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard, party leader Samar Haroon said.
The deceased politician was the brother of former federal minister Ghulam Ahmed Bilour and former provincial minister Bashir Ahmed Bilour, who was killed in a suicide attack in 2012.
Ilyas has served as a Senator from 2012 to 2018 as a candidate of the Awami National Party. He was elected as a technocrat member of the upper house of parliament from 2003 to 2006.
However, he quit politics after his son Ghazanfar joined the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) — a rival party of the ANP.
President Asif Ali Zardari expressed deep grief and sorrow over the death of former Senator Ilyas Ahmed Bilour. The president offered his heartfelt condolences to the family members of the late politician, the President House statement said.
He prayed to Allah Almighty to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant courage to the bereaved family to bear the loss with patience.
KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi also expressed sorrow over the former sentor’s demise and said that his political and social services were not hidden from anyone.
