LAHORE: Hackers have taken control of former Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial’s personal WhatsApp account which they now use to send fake money requests to his contacts.
Bandial’s sources reported that unknown hackers accessed his WhatsApp account without permission to send messages to multiple people while pretending to be him and asking for money transfers through false methods.
He discovered suspicious WhatsApp activity when he found messages that he did not send, according to a news source. His friends and acquaintances informed him about unusual money requests that they received from his account.
Bandial has officially reported the identity theft incident to the FIA because he believes the attackers will use his personal information to create financial troubles for others while they conduct unlawful operations that include information theft and data privacy violations.
Pakistan’s cybersecurity laws classify unauthorized access to electronic accounts and extortion attempts via messaging platforms as criminal offenses.
The incident occurred during a time when reports about WhatsApp accounts being hacked by criminals in Pakistan have reached their highest level.
Government defense agencies have issued alerts to both public officials and citizens about phishing schemes that use mobile phone hacking methods and messaging account infiltration tactics to steal confidential data.
Cybersecurity experts recommend that all WhatsApp users activate two-step verification, together with strong password protection and notification alerts.
Security experts believe that hackers target high-profile individuals because their names create a sense of reliability. The public is urged to verify suspicious messages directly through phone.
