ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader and Former Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and 11 others have been acquitted from multiple references against them on Tuesday by Accountability court Islamabad, according to media reports.

The accountability court judge, Ali Warraich, announced the verdict and discharged the former premier Sharaqpur, Bhakki and Karkey references.

In the first reference (Karkey power plant) PPP leader and ten others were acquitted by the court; the references were 22 billion rupees corruption charges against them.

The Turkish company, Karkey Karadeniz Elektrik Üretim, had once filed a claim of Rs200 billion in damages against Pakistan, which was later withdrawn following government-level intervention.

The second reference involves six accused, including the former WAPDA chairman, and six others. The Bhekhi project had been valued at approximately Rs 96 billion.

In the third reference, which concerned the Sharaqpur Power Project, the court also cleared the defendants. All three referrals were filed by NAB as part of the Rental Power Projects corruption scam.

This is not the first time the former premier has been cleared of corruption charges in connection with rental power projects; he was previously cleared in the Pira Ghaib rental power plant in 2020.
