ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Energy (Power Division) has directed all Electricity Distribution Companies (DISCOs) to take necessary measures to ensure uninterrupted power supply during the upcoming month of Muharram-ul-Haram.
In a letter issued on June 22nd, 2025, Federal Minister for Power Division, Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari, urged the DISCOs to conduct thorough inspections of transmission and distribution networks, particularly in areas where majalis and processions are expected.
The ministry has asked the DISCOs to deploy dedicated emergency response teams on high alert throughout Moharram, especially on the 9th and 10th of Muharram, to address any power disruptions immediately.
The DISCOs have also been directed to coordinate with district administrations, law enforcement agencies, and religious organizers to identify critical locations requiring priority power supply and backup arrangements.
To minimize inconvenience, the DISCOs have been asked to communicate proactively with consumers, especially imambargahs and mosques, regarding any scheduled maintenance or potential load management measures.
The ministry has also directed the DISCOs to ensure that standby generators and UPS systems are available at sensitive locations to provide backup power in case of any unforeseen grid issues.
Furthermore, the DISCOs have been asked to assign duty rosters to ensure 24/7 availability of technical and operational staff during Moharram to respond swiftly to any power-related issues.
Dedicated control centers are also to be established at all levels with proper coordination and propagation of contact numbers to ensure smooth operation during the month.
The ministry has emphasized that the sanctity of Moharram demands utmost commitment to serving the public with diligence and respect. Any negligence in this regard will be viewed seriously, and a compliance report detailing the measures taken must be submitted to the Power Division.
The government’s efforts aim to ensure that the devotees and mourners participating in majalis and processions can observe the sacred month without any inconvenience.
With the heat waves expected in July, the ministry’s directives are crucial to maintaining a stable power supply and avoiding any disruptions.
