KARACHI: Sindh Excise and Taxation Department has also postponed the deadline for the replacement of vehicle number plates with the Ajrak-themed and security-enhanced number plates till October 31.
The last date of August 14 has been rescheduled to October 31 to ease the process for vehicle owners in a notification issued by the Excise and Taxation Department of Sindh.
The decision was made on the instructions of Pakistan People‘s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari during a meeting with Sindh Excise and Taxation Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was given a briefing on the campaign for security-enriched number plates, under which security would be reinforced throughout the province during the meeting.
Mukesh Kumar Chawla stated that the imposition of such high-tech number plates will greatly enhance the security scenario.
Bilawal Bhutto ordered an extension of the deadline for security-numbered plates to facilitate public convenience. The minister also updated Bilawal on the performance and attendance of PPP members in the Sindh Assembly.
Mukesh Kumar Chawla reported that the Sindh Narcotics Department seized a record worth Rs 7 billion of drugs in the war against narcotics in the province.
It has to be mentioned here that the government of Sindh‘s move to introduce new number plates for all licensed vehicles brought hardship to the people.
Meant to regulate car theft and enhance tax collection, the program has created long queues, delayed issuance, and severe traffic enforcement.
