ISLAMABAD: A total of Rs 152.547 billion has been recovered by the authorities from the individuals and organizations involved in power theft since the launch of the Campaign in September 2023, resulting in the registration of 314,814 cases and the arrest of over 115,000 individuals across the country.

The Government has recovered more than Rs 28  million in a country-wide anti-theft electricity campaign over the past week of April 2025, the crackdown has resulted in 97 arrests and over 1500 new cases filed against the individual and entities involved in the theft of electricity, officials reported.

Relevant authorities have stated their determination to sustain operations till energy theft is eliminated throughout Pakistan.

This effort is a vital component of the government’s goal to stabilize the electricity industry and promote overall economic recovery.

The anti-theft measures are intended to decrease system losses, increase revenue collection for power distribution firms, and, eventually, lessen the financial burden on paying customers.

These steps demonstrate the government’s efforts to solve structural concerns in Pakistan’s energy industry.

Electricity theft has long been recognized as a key contributor to Pakistan’s cyclical debt issue and inconsistent power supply.

By focusing on this issue, officials want to build a more sustainable and efficient electrical infrastructure that can support economic development.

To identify and sanction people responsible for illicit electricity hookups and meter manipulation, the campaign takes a multifaceted strategy that includes technological monitoring, field inspections, and legal prosecution.

Officials said the confiscated monies would be redirected back into the power industry to enhance infrastructure and service delivery, perhaps reducing some parts of the country’s ongoing electrical crisis.
