ISLAMABAD: Expectations of having a long weekend for thousands of workers in the federal government received a blow on Wednesday following an unequivocal clarification by the Cabinet Division, which stated that December 26, 2025, would be considered a regular working day for all federal ministries and departments.

Through a one-page notice issued on 24 December 2025, the Cabinet Secretariat, Cabinet Division, marked the following: “26 December 2025—is a working day for the Federal Government and all Federal Government Establishments.”

This consensus has been distributed amongst the country’s federal ministers, advisors, major constituent authorities, the country’s military top-class officers, the Islamabad judiciary, the State Bank, as well as various federal units.

This is just a day after the Islamabad District administration declared that 26th December will be an official holiday within the Islamabad Territory of the ICT, thus setting a long weekend for most private offices owing to the holiday on 25th December for Quaid-e-Azam Day and Christmas.

However, the recent announcement has brought it to light that the employees of the federal government posted in Islamabad shall not be affected by the decision of the district administration. The ministries, associated departments, and other federal entities having their headquarters in the capital are required to function normally on Friday.
