MACHH: Unknown gunmen attacked the Jaffar Express in Pakistan’s Balochistan province, injuring several passengers and prompting a retaliatory action by security forces. The attack took place near Ab Gum in Machh, where around six unidentified assailants opened fire on the moving train, causing panic among the passengers.

As per the initial reports, several passengers, including the train driver, were injured and their condition is critical. Rescue teams and security forces immediately reached the spot and started operations to arrest the attackers. An emergency relief train has also been dispatched to provide assistance.

As a precautionary measure, railway authorities have suspended the Peshawar-Quetta Jaffar Express along with the Bolan Mail bound for Karachi at Sibi. Meanwhile, Sibi Hospital has imposed an emergency in view of the fear of more casualties.

Balochistan has seen a surge in militant activity in recent months, with frequent attacks targeting security forces, infrastructure and civilians. While no group has claimed responsibility for the Jaffar Express attack, authorities are investigating possible links to insurgent factions active in the area.

Authorities strongly condemned the attack and vowed to take immediate action against those responsible. “Ensuring the safety of passengers is our top priority. We will not tolerate such acts of violence,” a railway spokesman said. Security has been tightened on Balochistan’s railway network, with additional deployment planned to prevent future incidents.
