Heavy rainfall & thunderbolts claim nine lives across country

ISLAMABAD: Thunderstorms and heavy rains in Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab claimed nine lives, including two children.

One person and two children were killed by lightning due to rain in different areas of Balochistan including Quetta, Chaman Chagai, Nushki, Dera Bugti, Sorab, Kohlu and Khuzdar.

Heavy rains also occurred in South Punjab including Multan while Dera Ismail Khan, Malakand, Mohmand and Kohat districts of KP also received heavy rains.

After heavy rain in Quetta, the low-lying areas came under water. It also rained in Mastung, Kalat, Nushki, Pashin, Kharan, Qila Abdullah and Kutchhi. The mud storm also wreaked havoc in Qalat, affecting visibility in the area.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Balochistan says that two children were killed in a thunderstorm in Sorab district.

Meanwhile, a 22-year-old youth died due to lightning in Pishin.

Apart from this, two houses were demolished by thundershowers in Upper and Lower Chitral, while landslides and flooding on Chitral, Garm Chashma, Upper Chitral and Torkhu roads suspended vehicular traffic.

A tourist vehicle was rescued which was stuck in the drain.

Most of the areas of Upper Chitral were plunged into darkness due to the power supply being affected.
