LAHORE: The Punjab government has launched the “Himmat Card“, allowing free traveling for special persons on the Lahore Orange Line Metro Train and Metro Bus service in Punjab.
According to the Punjab MassTransit Authority spokesperson, Himmat Card holders can travel on the metro service in Lahore, Multan, and Twin Cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi free of cost after showing their card at the ticket counter.
The facility will be available seven days a week, aimed at reducing travel difficulties faced by special persons.
The Himmat Card, inaugurated by Chief Miniter Maryam Nawaz, offers a package of different services to Persons with Disabilities (PWD), including free public transport.
Under the initiative, which was launched on October 3, the government increased the provision of quarterly financial assistance from Rs 7,500 to Rs 10,500. Later on, any other service announced by the Government for PWDs will be provided through the Himmat Card.
The cabinet also increased the PMT score from 35 to 45 so that more deserving people could benefit from the financial assistance.
The Punjab government made the Himmat Card programme part of the annual development programme 2024-25 with an allocation of Rs2 billion to be issued to deserving persons.
