PESHAWAR: The Supreme Court has accepted the review petitions against the decision to give reserved seats to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and upheld the Peshawar High Court’s decision regarding reserved seats.

After the Supreme Court’s decision, 77 reserved seats in the national and provincial assemblies have been restored.

After the Supreme Court’s decision, reserved seats in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly will be given to PML-N, JUI-F, PPP, ANP, and PTI Parliamentarians.

The number of reserved seats in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly is 25, including 21 for women and 4 for minorities.

The number of members of PML-N and JUI is 7, 7. According to the formula, PML-N and JUI will get 7, 7 reserved seats.

The PPP will get 4 out of 4 members, the ANP will get 1 reserved seat out of 2 members, while the PTI parliamentarians will get 1 reserved seat out of 2 members.

The Election Commission will decide on the remaining one seat for women, while out of the four minority seats, two will go to the PML-N and two to the JUI-F.

Earlier, in a significant setback for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the Supreme Court’s Constitutional Bench ruled that the party is not entitled to seats reserved for women and minorities in the national and provincial assemblies.

The verdict was announced by a 10-member bench headed by Justice Aminuddin Khan on Friday. After a brief ruling, Justice Aminuddin Khan stated, “the undersigned justice Aminuddin Khan, Justice Mussarat Hilali, Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan, Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan, Justice Hashim Khan Kakar, Justice Aamir Farooq and Justice Ali Baqar Najafi all review petitions are allowed and impugned majority judgement dated July 12, 2024 is set aside as a consequence thereof civil appeals filed by SIC are dismissed and judgement of the Peshawar High Court PHC is restored.”
