LAHORE: The Punjab government has launched a new welfare scheme for financial assistance to widows and orphans. Under the “Rahmat Card Program”, one-time financial assistance will be provided to the deserving people so that they can fulfill their basic needs.
While formally inaugurating this program, the Chief Minister of Punjab said that the government is taking practical steps to support the weaker section. A huge amount of Rs 5 billion has been allocated from the Zakat Fund for this scheme, from which thousands of deserving families will be able to benefit.
Only those widows and orphans who are legally entitled to Zakat will be eligible under the program. Such people who are government employees, are receiving pension or are financially stable will not be able to benefit from this scheme.
The government has introduced a simple procedure for applying. Citizens can also apply through the mobile app, while for further guidance, helpline 1077 can be contacted. To ensure transparency, the selection of beneficiaries will be done on the basis of data from the Punjab Socio-Economic Registry.
If the name of an applicant is not included in this database, his/her information will be verified with NADRA. Financial assistance to the selected individuals will be provided through Jazz Cash Wallet account, so that the money reaches the beneficiaries directly.
