KARACHI: Citizens in Karachi can now speed-dial the helpline 1334 to report missing or open manhole covers, which guarantees speedy government action and enhances public safety.
This directive comes after recent incidents, including the tragic death of a three-year-old boy in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, highlighted the urgent need for proper maintenance of manholes.
The Sindh Government, in coordination with KWSC, has given assurance to the citizens regarding timely action on each and every complaint. As many as about 71,000 manhole covers were installed in Karachi during 2024 alone, indicating the administration’s commitment to saving the lives of its residents.
From 23 October to 1 December 2025, the city recorded 1,543 complaints for missing manhole covers, with 1,449 cases already addressed. North Nazimabad Town topped the list with 169 complaints, followed by 149 in New Karachi Town and 110 cases in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town.
The authorities ask residents to be vigilant and encourage them to report any open or unsafe manholes to prevent further accidents. Cases were reported in each of the 25 towns in the city, thus highlighting the need for continued vigilance through constant monitoring and timely response.
KWSC continues to provide manhole covers wherever needed and prioritizes quick repair work after each report.
