KARACHI: The Kotri Railway Line Church is one of Sindh’s oldest churches, and restoration work has been underway ahead of Christmas, nearly 179 years after its establishment in 1846.
This has brought new hope to the Christian community living in Kotri, Hyderabad, and nearby towns.
The renovation is not only a revival of the historic building but also a symbol of faith and cultural heritage. For the families preparing for Christmas, this is an important step in securing a place that has witnessed worship, weddings, and seasonal services for generations.
The project was inaugurated by Sindh Assembly Deputy Speaker Anthony Naveed alongside Bishop Kaleem John of Hyderabad Diocese and Director General of Archaeology Abdul Fattah Sheikh.
Naveed said the restoration reflects Sindh’s long tradition of interfaith harmony and religious freedom, adding, “This project shows solidarity with minority communities.”
The Renovation, which costs Rs 30 million, will be completed in a duration of 150 days and provide new washrooms and better infrastructure.
DG Archaeology Abdul Fattah Sheikh said Sindh had more than 3,200 registered heritage buildings, out of which close to 200 had already been restored, including churches. But the Kotri church held special significance due to its age and historical value.
