PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has instructed Junaid Akbar, a party lawmaker, to step down from the chairmanship of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), party sources said.

As per details, the former prime minister, who’s incarcerated in Adiala Jail, conveyed his decision to the party leadership through his sister, Aleema Khan.

Sources further said that Aleema delivered the written directive from Imran Khan to PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar and Secretary General Salman Akram Raja.

PTI founder had instructed Junaid Akbar to relinquish the role to focus entirely on party affairs and organize weekly rallies and conventions as PTI’s president for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, sources said.

Insiders have suggested that Omar Ayub, a senior PTI figure and Opposition leader in the National Assembly, is likely to be nominated as the new PAC chairman to replace Akbar.

Commenting on the development, Akbar said he would comply with the directive whenever Khan formally asks him to resign. “I will step down from the Public Accounts Committee chairmanship as soon as Imran Khan instructs me to,” he stated.
