ISLAMABAD (By Rizwan Abbasi): Pakistan is expected to intensify diplomatic efforts to seek an exemption from U.S. sanctions on the Pak-Iran gas pipeline project. Government sources have stated that Pakistan is determined to complete this vital project, as the country cannot afford to endure further sanctions amidst its ongoing energy crisis.
According to sources, Pakistan plans to persuade the United States to lift sanctions on the Iran gas project. For this purpose, robust lobbying efforts and compelling arguments will be employed to secure the exemption.
Government officials revealed that the caretaker government had already approved the construction of an 80-kilometer section of the gas pipeline on Pakistani territory. However, due to geopolitical considerations, the plan to formally submit a request against U.S. sanctions was postponed.
Sources further noted that Pakistan intends to raise the issue of sanctions on the Iran gas project effectively with the Trump administration. The country aims to present strong political and technical arguments to facilitate the project’s completion.
Experts emphasize that the Pak-Iran gas pipeline project holds immense significance in alleviating Pakistan’s energy crisis. If the U.S. agrees to relax its sanctions, it would not only benefit Pakistan but also have a positive impact on the region.
The outcome of Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts will become clearer in the coming days.
