ISLAMABAD: Driving in Pakistan, including Islamabad, requires a valid driving license. Without one, you risk facing penalties and potentially worse consequences in the event of an accident.
To avoid these issues, the Islamabad Traffic Police has streamlined the renewal process for car and motorcycle licenses.
If you apply within three years of expiration, the process is relatively smooth. You’ll need to submit the required documents, and you’re good to go.
However, if you wait longer than three years, you’ll need to take theory and driving tests again.
The renewal fee of driving license within 30 days stands at Rs2,000 while it will be Rs3,500 after thirty days but within one year of the date of expiry of the license.
The renewal fee for a driving license within three years of the expiry has been fixed at Rs 3,000. If the license has been expired for more than three years, the renewal fee is Rs8,000.
The fee for a learner’s driving license with a six-month validity has been set at Rs 1,000 by the Islamabad government.
The non-professional motor vehicle and motorbike driving license price is Rs 3,000.
To renew your driving license through the walk-in process in Islamabad, follow these steps:
Visit the Islamabad Traffic Police office and obtain a token by presenting your original CNIC card at the reception. Next, proceed to biometric verification and photo-capturing. Wait for your turn to be called, then head to the designated counter.
Pay the license renewal fee. Get the confirmation slip that carries the date for receiving the license.
The Islamabad Traffic Police also offers online renewal facilities for Overseas Pakistanis, making it more convenient for those abroad.
