Punjab govt launches 10 new driving schools for women

Punjab Assembly resolution proposes lowering driving license age to 16

LAHORE: The Punjab government has taken a significant step towards empowering women by establishing ten driving schools exclusively for females across the city.

These schools are strategically located at Greater Iqbal Park, Kahna Misaq Center, Township, Liberty Khidmat Markaz, Manawan Traffic Lines, Defence Khidmat Markaz, Barkat Market, Jail Road, and LOS Ferozepur Road.

The initiative, pioneered by Chief Traffic Officer Amara Tahir, aims to promote women’s independence and mobility, enabling them to become self-sufficient and confident individuals.

In addition, classes are conveniently held from 8 am to 4 pm, offering a women-to-women service where female instructors teach and assist women learners.

Additionally, the provincial government has reduced the waiting period for retaking the road driving test from 42 days to 15 days, making it easier for women to obtain their driving licenses.

This move is expected to encourage more women to take up driving, promoting independence and mobility.
