LAHORE: Lahore’s traffic police have stepped up their efforts against repeat traffic violators, fining one vehicle for 108 recorded violations through the city’s e-challan system. The driver was fined more than Rs 51,800 for multiple violations.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Amara Athar emphasized the importance of drivers obeying traffic laws, especially increased vigilance.
The vehicle caught by traffic warden Mohsin Abbas on Mall Road ran red lights 80 times, violated lane rules 19 times and failed to wear seat belts 9 times.
CTO Amara also warned that drivers with unpaid e-challans will be barred from accessing police services, such as driving licences, character certificates and verification.
Additionally, authorities are cracking down on those who tamper with vehicle number plates to avoid fines.
In a related effort, Punjab introduced AI-based e-Challan earlier this week to enhance road safety, detect traffic violations and automate enforcement, according to Muhammad Shafiq Ahmed, Operation Commander, Punjab Safe City.
