Islamabad High Court orders action CDA over stray dog killings

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has ordered the CDA to register a case against those responsible for vaccinating and killing stray dogs after finding evidence.

An important development has come in the case filed against the eradication and genocide of stray dogs. The court said in its written order that if evidence of killing stray dogs is found, immediate action should be taken against the concerned authorities. This order was issued by Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro.

The court directed the CDA to ensure the vaccination of stray dogs, while the Director Municipal Administration was summoned to the court in person for an explanation. The court also ordered the full implementation of the 2020 policy on stray dogs.

The written decision said that according to the petitioner’s lawyer, the CDA officials told the court that Rs 19,000 was being spent on catching and vaccinating dogs, however, the photographs presented show that the dogs were killed. The killed dogs were found in a CDA truck.

According to the court order, eyewitness Dr. Ghani Ikram told the court that he was an eyewitness to the incident. According to him, when he reached the spot, the CDA driver fled from there with the dead dogs.

The application was filed by citizen Nilofar, who requested the implementation of the 2020 policy regarding stray dogs. The court accepted the citizen’s miscellaneous application and allowed her to become a party in the case.

Considering the seriousness of the matter, the court adjourned further hearing of the case till October 27.
