Islamabad records highest numbers of gang rapes than any other province: report

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s federal capital has recorded more cases of gang rape than Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, and Gilgit Baltistan (GB) combined, as per publicly published crime figures.

The country witnesses  11,074 murders, 2,142 instances of gang rape, 4,472 cases of Zina, and 34,688 kidnappings or abductions.

Punjab ranked as the most afflicted province, with the highest figures in all categories, including murder, gang rape, and kidnapping.

Notably, Islamabad, the federal capital, reported the highest number of gang rape instances of any province, raising worries about urban safety.

In 2024, the murder toll in Punjab stood at 4,908, with KP trailing behind at 3,444. Sindh reported 1,862 killings, with lower totals in Balochistan (528), Islamabad (155), GB (122), and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (75).

Over the last year, there have been 2,142 occurrences of gang rape in Pakistan.

Punjab has reported 2,046 incidences of gang rape. Sindh has reported 71 incidences of gang rape. In KP, one gang rape and 402 occurrences of Zina were reported in the previous year, whereas in Balochistan, no gang rape and 43 cases of Zina were reported.

In Islamabad, 22 incidences of gang rape and 125 cases of Zina have been documented. In Gilgit Baltistan, one case of gang rape was documented.

Furthermore, according to official crime records, 33 occurrences of Zina were registered in AJK in 2024, with no cases of gang rape.

In 2024, Punjab recorded the most cases of kidnapping/abduction (28,702) among all provinces.

Sindh recorded 4,331 kidnappings and abductions, KP 533, Balochistan 406, Islamabad 238, GB 108, and AJK 370. In all, 34,688 occurrences of kidnapping/abduction were recorded in Pakistan in 2024.

However, Punjab recorded the fewest occurrences of rioting after Islamabad, where no riots occurred in the previous year.

In 2024, Pakistan saw 4,533 riots, with Punjab reporting only two. Sindh recorded 3,472 occurrences of rioting, KP reported 12, Balochistan reported 292 cases, GB reported 196 cases, and AJK reported a total of 557 cases of riots in the previous year.
