ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has taken a major step for the convenience of the citizens amid the recent license campaign in the federal capital.
On the instructions of IG Islamabad, the police have announced to issue learner permits at the police check posts across the federal capital.
In the second phase of the driving license campaign, City Traffic Officer (CTO) Hamza Humayun said that citizens will be able to obtain permits from the convenience vans present at the check posts.
He added that the convenience vans of the Islamabad Traffic Police will be present at 4 check posts, including Zero Point, Faizabad, G-14, and the Foreign Office.
Citizens who do not have a driver’s license can obtain a learner’s permit. Those who do not have a license or permit will be given a permit on the spot.
The Islamabad Police’s ongoing road-safety licensing campaign raised the proportion of licensed drivers in the capital to 80 per cent and contributing to improved traffic discipline and a significant reduction in road accidents.
During the campaign, ITP officers checked over 2,000 drivers on the roads, according to the ITP official.
The licensed-driver ratio, initially 56 percent, surged to 76 percent during the drive and has now reached 80 percent, marking a major shift toward ensuring that only qualified drivers are behind the wheel.
