ISLAMABAD: In a recent development, the bench of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) hearing the degree case of Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri was dissolved on Tuesday.

Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro excused himself from the bench, according to media reports.

The case was listed before the two-member bench, comprising Chief Justice Sarfaraz Dogar and Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro.

However, the proceedings could not continue following Justice Soomro’s withdrawal.

The Islamabad Bar Association submitted a miscellaneous application to the court to join the lawsuit as a party.

However, the application and the primary matter about Justice Tariq Jahangiri’s degree were postponed without any proceedings because of the bench’s disarray.

Earlier, the Supreme Court suspended the order preventing Justice Tariq Jahangiri from Judicial work.

The Supreme Court heard an appeal filed against the suspension of Islamabad High Court judge Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri from working, in which the court suspended the order of a two-member bench of the Islamabad High Court.

The court issued notices to the parties and the Attorney General’s Office and adjourned the hearing till tomorrow.

During the hearing, Justice Jamal Mandokhel said that we have the case to the extent of the interim order of the Islamabad High Court, and the Supreme Judicial Council meeting has been called for October 18.

Justice Shahid Bilal said that there were objections to the petition against Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri.

How was the writ petition numbered despite the objections of the Registrar’s Office? Lawyers of both sides came prepared to answer this question.

Justice Munir A Malik said that the Supreme Court has already ruled that a judge cannot be stopped from judicial work, to which Justice Jamal Mandokhel said that the facts of the case he is referring to were different.
