KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Thursday heard the case of a citizen, Sameer Afridi, who has been missing for the last eight years.

The high court had summoned Sindh’s home secretary but failed to show up for the hearing.

The home secretary was occupied with the apex committee meeting at the Chief Minister House, according to the deputy secretary of the Sindh Home Department who briefed the court.

He informed the court that the family of the missing Sameer Afridi has received approval for a summary of compensation and would shortly receive the full amount.

The family of the missing person was ordered to receive compensation right away by the bench of the high court.

The court further ordered the continuation of the JIT’s session and the provincial task force.

The bench also ordered the use of modern technology to trace the missing citizen.

The judge postponed the case’s next hearing until May 31.

On Monday, a Sindh High Court bench mandated that compensation be given to the relatives of those who went missing.

The province government would provide compensation for those residents whose status as missing persons has been confirmed, government counsel said the court. “A report has been sent to the chief minister of Sindh for reimbursement,” the focal point for the home department told the judge.
