KARACHI: The Karachi Commissioner has suspended as many as 11 polio vaccinators over their negligence during the ongoing polio vaccination campaign.
The Commissioner of Karachi, Syed Hassan Naqvi, has issued the suspension order on the directives of Sindh Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah.
The suspended staff were deployed in District Malir and District West of the port city.
Among those suspended are Munshi Zafar Khaskheli, Ali Gul Kalhoro, Sarfaraz Katpar, Nooruddin Jakhrani, Mazar Khan Bijarani, Amanullah, Saleem Raza, Munshi Mumtaz Kalhoro, Abid Shah, Dahni Bakhsh, and Abdul Qadir.
The Commissioner has made it clear that absenteeism or negligence during the polio campaign will not be tolerated.
Sindh Chief Secretary stated that the district administration, revenue department, local government, and town employees will remain in the field to assist polio teams, and strict action will be taken against government employees absent from polio duty.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif launched the campaign on February 2 by administering polio drops to children under the age of five.
Addressing the launching ceremony, the prime minister reaffirmed his government’s determination to eliminate the polio disease from Pakistan.
He said that the national polio vaccination drive would target millions of children in the country to save their future and health.
He hoped that the dedicated teams would work day and night to eradicate the disease, and would reach the far flung areas and villages, adding these teams would successfully meet the huge national responsibility by utilizing their complete energies.
