KARACHI: The massive fire that broke out at the Landhi Export Processing Zone (EPZ) is still burning in several pockets after a day despite efforts to douse the flames.

At least a dozen fire brigade vehicles are at the scene, continuously battling the blaze in the affected area. According to fire department officials, the fire engulfed at least four factories involved in the production of textiles and export goods. The intensity and scale of the fire forced the authorities to declare it a third-degree fire.

The fire partially collapsed the building, injuring five people. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.

Officials said that the fire has been brought under control, efforts to completely extinguish and cool it are underway and it may take several more hours. Access routes are blocked, complicating operations and delaying complete control of the situation.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined and an official investigation is underway. Initial estimates suggest that goods worth millions of rupees have been lost, causing serious concern in the export sector.

Eyewitnesses reported scenes of chaos and panic as the fire broke out in the early hours of the morning, thick smoke engulfed the area and emergency teams rushed to evacuate workers.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have urged businesses in the area to remain vigilant. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses and cooling efforts conclude.
