KARACHI: The enraged citizens torched at least nine dumper trucks at different locations in Karachi on Wednesday evening after a speeding heavy vehicle crushed two motorbikes.

The protest turned violent when a speeding dumper, allegedly driven by a teenager, hit two motorbikes near the Nagan Chowrangi Flyover, injuring the riders.

The motorcyclist injured in the Nagan Chowrangi accident was identified as 23-year-old Daniyal, who is currently receiving medical treatment at a local hospital.

As per details, the situation escalated when a high-speed dumper recklessly ran over the protesters who were demonstrating against the earlier incident at the Nagan Chowrangi flyover, hitting multiple vehicles in the process.

Police intervened just in time to save the driver, identified as Nizamullah, and secure the dumper.

No loss of life was reported in the incident. However, the incident angered citizens, who set fire to several dumper trucks on the same thoroughfare.

Police said that at least nine vehicles were set on fire, including five dumpers at the Powerhouse roundabout, four water tankers on 4K roundabout, and Baba Morr in Surjani Town.

Firefighters managed to extinguish the flames with support from police units.

A large police contingent was deployed in the affected areas to bring the situation under control.

Police said that they were also collecting information from hospitals to determine if there were any unreported injuries.
