ISLAMABAD: Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Sohail Afridi chaired an important meeting to review the progress of the province’s flagship road sector projects, including Swat Motorway Phase II, Peshawar-Dera Ismail Khan Motorway and Dir Motorway.
During the meeting, officials briefed the chief minister about the status of the projects and the government took several important decisions. The chief minister directed the concerned departments to start construction on Swat Motorway Phase II at the earliest and declared it as the flagship project of the provincial government.
He directed the authorities to resolve all technical and administrative issues without delay. Swat Motorway Phase II will stretch for 80 kilometers from Chakdara Interchange to Fatehpur. The project includes nine interchanges and seven bridges at different locations over the Swat River.
The chief minister also indicated that the government would soon lay the foundation stone of Peshawar-Dera Ismail Khan Motorway. The 365-kilometer-long motorway will include 19 interchanges and two tunnels. The government will complete both the Peshawar-Dera Ismail Khan Motorway and Swat Motorway Phase II under the Public Private Partnership model.
For the Dir Motorway, it was decided in principle in the meeting that the provincial government will construct the project using entirely provincial resources.
The Chief Minister directed the departments to complete all legal and administrative requirements at the earliest to start practical work and said that the government is using the available resources effectively and transparently to ensure development and prosperity in the remote areas of the province.
