KP Assembly passes ETA Bill 2026, grants autonomy to testing agency

ISLAMABAD: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly approved the KP Educational Testing and Evaluation Agency Bill 2026.

In the meeting to be held on Monday, ETA was given financial and administrative autonomy under the KP Assembly Bill. It was proposed to extend the jurisdiction of ETA to other provinces and the federation.

The Board of Governors will be headed by the Chief Minister, while complete transparency and merit will be ensured in recruitment and admissions.

ETA will also have the authority to impose strict punishment on those who use cheating and illegal means and ETA will have the authority to make any government or private place an examination center.

The text of the bill states that an endowment fund will be established for ETA and will conduct entry tests for professional colleges and universities. ETA will conduct screening and recruitment tests for government and private institutions.

ETA will be able to conduct tests for federal and provincial governments and private institutions, while ETA will develop educational testing systems and resources on modern lines, and take steps to promote research and learning trends among students.

ETA will provide training and research to improve the quality of testing and the government will be able to assign more responsibilities to ETA through notification. ETA will be able to enter into agreements and partnerships with government and non-government institutions.

Under the bill, it has been made mandatory to present an annual audit report in the Assembly and the new law will replace the old ordinance of 2001.
