LAHORE: A local court in Lahore on Tuesday discharged the elderly citizen, who was arrested for allegedly using abusive language against Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, citing a lack of evidence.

The accused, named Sajid Nawaz, was presented before Judicial Magistrate Ghulam Farid Qureshi in Model Town Court, Lahore.

On the order of the court, the police released the elderly citizen by untying his handcuffs on the court premises.

Duing the hearing today, Advocate Sameer Khan Khattak alleged that police had illegally detained his client’s father for the past two days. He claimed that Sajid had been arrested without any registered case and had not been produced before any court.

Earlier on July 14, Sajid’s son, Muhammad Umar, filed the habeas corpus petition in the session court, demanding the recovery of his father.

The counsel also stated that the police had forced the petitioner’s father to record apology videos, which were later circulated on social media. He asked the court to order the recovery and release of the petitioner’s father.

A few days ago, a video of Sajid riding a motorcycle in the rain went viral on social media, in which he could be heard using abusive language against the chief minister.
