Lahore police announces comprehensive security plan for Muharram

LAHORE: Special arrangements for 3,868 Majalis and 458 processions in Lahore during Muharram City Police have prepared the Muharram security plan. Special arrangements are made for 3,868 Majalis and 458 mourning processions in the provincial metropolis.

In the security plan, Lahore will witness 457 A category, 2,610 B category, and 801 C category Majalis, 104 A category, 308 B category, and 46 C category mourning processions; besides 373 Imambargahs and 93 mosques, a report compiled by City Police said.

A three-tier security strategy has been implemented in Lahore to maintain peace and security during Muharramul Haram, CCPO Bilal Siddique Kamyana told a press conference here at Police Lines Qila Gujjar Singh on Saturday. Senior Police officials Zeeshan Raza and Faisal Kamran were present at the presser.

CCPO Kamyana said that more than 100,000 security duties would be performed by police officers and personnel on a rotational basis throughout Muharram. In this connection, nine control rooms have been established for effective monitoring round the clock.

The police chief said that an improved traffic management plan has also been put in place to help facilitate commuters and mourners.

He said the Punjab Safe Cities Authority and District Administration Control Rooms would continuously monitor the process during the processions and Majalis.

Crime statistics and progress CCPO Kamyana stated that in 2026, serious crime in Lahore decreased by 55pc as against last year, while robbery was reduced by 58pc.

He said that the worth of over Rs8 billion has been returned to citizens as cash and valuables recovered from the accused since January 2023 in various criminal cases.

“More than 1.332 million case challans of various crimes pending have been sent to courts, whereas more than 100,000 proclamation offenders have been taken into custody during various police operations,” he added. Lahore Police would implement the QR code-based system and panic buttons at important sites.

CCPO Kamyana informed the media that they would continue intelligence-based combing operations, and field formations would be put on high alert during the holy month.

Strict action will be taken against anyone who violates the timings and routes of processions, besides banning the use of loudspeakers, CCPO Bilal Siddique Kamyana concluded.
