PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has declared 1st Muharram a public holiday across the province.
According to a notification issued by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Administration Department, the holiday on 1st Muharram will be subject to the sighting of the moon.
The notification states that all government offices and educational institutions will remain closed on the occasion of 1st Muharram.
It should be noted that the meeting of the central committee for the sighting of the moon of Muharram will be held today.

The meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will be chaired by Chairman Maulana Syed Muhammad Abdul Khabir Azad, in which experts from the Meteorological Department, Suparco, and the Ministry of Science and Technology, along with committee members, will also participate.
Along with the central meeting, meetings of zonal committees will be held simultaneously in other major cities of the country and the federal capital.
Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, Chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, will make the final and official announcement of the sighting of the moon of Muharram-ul-Haram and the new Islamic year after reviewing the reports and Shariah testimonies received from all zonal committees.
