Pet lion killed after escaping from house in Lahore

Lahore: In a tragic incident, a pet lion was shot dead after being set loose here in Lahore on Saturday.

The incident took place in the Harbanspura area where a pet lion broke free from its cage at a resident’s dera (house).

The animal attacked at least three people, injuring them, before fleeing the premises and reaching a nearby drain.

Security guards shot and killed the lion after failing to catch the animal.

Police reached the spot and initiated legal action.

Keeping big cats as pets is a growing trend among wealthy citizens as recently a YouTuber Rajab Butt was arrested for displaying a firearm in public and keeping a lion cub at his residence without a license.

Police along with the wildlife department raided his residence in the Chohang area after it was reported that the YouTuber was in possession of wildlife without a license and openly displayed weapons.

Reports suggest that the police and wildlife had received the lion cub Rajab Butt as a gift during his wedding ceremony.

A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against the YouTuber, which has been transferred to the local police station for further investigation, a Punjab police spokesperson said.

The YouTuber’s lavish wedding celebrations came under fire from social media users after a large amount of cash was thrown at the couple and guests.
