LAHORE: After tremendous thunderstorms and heavy rainfall in Lahore, the Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) confirms two deaths and several injuries on Friday, according to media reports.

The PDMA also confirmed that strong winds accompanying the downpour damaged nine buildings in the city.

The authority has issued a weather alert in the province amid heavy rains and lightning expected until May 4.

The PDMA has warned of possible lightning strikes over the next three days, while hilly areas such as Murree and Galiyat may experience landslides due to persistent rainfall.

Rain in many major cities of Punjab has been forecasted by the Met Office for this week. The authority is also raising concerns over urban flooding and infrastructure damage.

Irfan Ali Kathia, Director General of PDMA Punjab, recommended that people avoid venturing outside during severe circumstances.

“The likelihood of lightning strikes is high. “People should stay inside and avoid open spaces,” he said.

He also emphasized that the Punjab government will provide financial assistance to afflicted families under its emergency relief strategy.

Rescue squads and district governments across Punjab are on high alert to respond quickly to any emergency.

In the event of an emergency or weather-related disaster, citizens should immediately contact the PDMA helpline at 1129.
