ISLAMABAD: The LGBTQ community in Pakistan has been advocating for acceptance and rights despite facing challenges amid conservative social attitudes and legal restrictions, and now the office of the Deputy Commissioner Abbottabad has been contacted for a gay club.

An NOC has been formally requested to set up a gay club called Lorenzo Gay Club in Abbottabad.

The petition filed by Preetum Giani seeks a safe space for all gay people with strict laws against any sexual activity at the club.

Application for Abbottabad Gay Club

As per the application, “The club will create a great practical facility and resource, especially for many gay, bisexual, and even some heterosexual people living in Abbottabad and other parts of the country.”.

“Lorenzo Gay Club will essentially be the only place where gay people can freely meet, communicate, and share light-hearted refreshments with other gays. It will not be a place for non-gays to engage in homosexuality other than kissing,” it said.

The petitioner called it a matter of the fundamental human right of free association enshrined in the country’s constitution.

The development sparked fresh debate online, as the KP region is known for its conservative tradition.
